The Big Reveal and What CMG is all about
I'm back in my office after a 4-day whirlwind of reuniting with friends, networking, future thinking and color. Whew! Exhausting and energizing at the same time, Color Marketing Group's International Summit is a highlight for me every year. If you aren't familiar, CMG is an international organization of color and marketing professionals who attend workshops and conferences held around the world with an annual summit where the World Color Forecast is revealed.
The members who attend the regional ChromaZone workshops and conferences throughout the year are building their forecasts and it is this collaboration and sharing of ideas that make CMG a truly unique organization. Many companies will purchase subscriptions to trend forecasting services that assist their designers, sales and marketing teams in selecting the best colors for their products. While I find these to be useful tools, they don't compare to the actual experience that I have with CMG. When I am in a workshop with my color tribe, listening to their stories and observations sends sparks through my head. These sparks often bridge glimmers of ideas that have just started or that maybe are just beginning to show their importance.
As a color and trend forecaster, I am always observing the world around me and looking for change. CMG collaboration is a little like shopping with a friend or visiting a museum. You see things through their eyes that you might miss when you are alone. I have made many friends in the 20+ years that I have belonged to CMG, and yes they are colorful! Members are from various industries and we share our observations and experiences. The magic comes from what we can do with that information. I leave the Summit with color forecasts, a few comprehensive trend stories to watch out for, and a few that are just hints of ideas that need to still be worked out. Now to capture those ideas and color direction forecasts and apply!
